No need expensive sports and kits for this if you are getting start rowing.
If you decided to start rowing, then you will sake from investing in some quality technical layers which will be keep you warm in winter and cool in summer, but most important, dry.
Your clothes need to be comfortable and flexible so you can move in them easily and not too baggy – you would don’t like them getting caught in the oars or the runners.
On the water.
An all-in-one is a Lycra fabric suit generally used for racing, but it’s very important and a part of your regular training kit as they are made from good wicking fabric, breathable and allow you to move easily. In summer this will be all that you wear and in winter it can make a good base layer.
Tracksuit top and trousers are good in the winter to keep your body warm outside water, especially when you’re off the water, rigging boats or at a regatta.
All type leggings are good for rowing because they won’t catch on the boat and fit with body. Long leggings are great in cold weather and close-fitting shorts work well in the summer months. The fabric tends to dry quickly when wet.
T-shirts are also good for all weather – they are worn in hot weather or increase layers in colder weather. In the summer it’s better to have lots of thin layers else than one thick one!
Body warmer base layer compression all good for rowing. In these days Body warmers take as gilets also which are a good option for cold weather as they keep your main steam parts warm.
Gilets as mention as body warmer are a good option also for winter cold weather as they keep your body warm.
In winter wet weather it’s a great idea to wear a waterproof top. A normal waterproof will dedicate but a splash top is designed specifically for rowing.
A technical top (or tech top) is like a tight full sleeve shirt like base layer top and will keep you warm and dry as they are generally made from Lycra fast dry and breathable fabric. even you will see rowers using this combination with an all in one.
Gloves are not ideal and best for rowing they are not allow you to feel and hold the blade handle correctly. anyhow, rowing gloves are specifically designed to keep hands warm when rowing! Gloves are option-less if you’re feel freezing in cold weather.
It’s a also very good idea to wear socks when you’re rowing. you’ll be putting your feet into the shoes in the boat. Football style socks are also good as you can pull them up to your knees and keep your legs warm if it’s cold weather.
You lose a third of your heat through your head so in the winter months you need to keep it warm with a woolly hat. In summer a baseball cap can protect you from the sun.
Indoor rowing.
The basic principles for indoor rowing also same, else that you don’t have to be worry about the weather.
You want close fitting wears that won’t get caught in the handle or the runners. Regular gym kit is fitting this. It’s generally made out of technical fabric Lycra that allows you to move, breathable and keeps you dry.
